Since 1998, Manitoba has welcomed 130,000 immigrants, and Canada’s first Provincial Nominee Program completes its 20 years of inception. The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) was designed to sponsor immigrants for permanent residence who met the economic requirements and who were capable of contributing towards the growth of Manitoba under the conditions of Manitoba’s Canada immigration assessment.
Almost every Canadian province except Nunavut has its own Provincial Nominee Program Canada. Nunavut has a separate partnership with the Canadian Federal Government.
Manitoba has experienced consistent population and economic growth brought about by its PNP which was introduced in 1998. Since then, Manitoba has welcomed thousands of immigrants which contributed to the positive population growth of the province.
The province acknowledges that its economic growth and GDP would have been 30% lower without Canada’s first Provincial Nominee Program and recognizes its Provincial Nominee Program Canada has immensely benefitted the province. Immigrants invested over $308 million in the province through the business stream.
Furthermore, recent statistics issued by the province showed that approximately 90% of immigrants were employed within the first year of the program.
The province has regularly tracked the progress of its PNP and has continuously updated the functions of the program in the last two decades. For instance, in 2001, Canada’s first Provincial Nominee Program witnessed the introduction of a separate stream of nomination for immigrants who wished to start their own business in the province and later also added a stream for certain skilled workers.
In November 2017, the MPNP underwent an overhaul featuring a renewed Skilled Workers Overseas program which was divided into two different immigration streams, which included the Federal Express Entry System.
The Express Entry System introduced in 2015 is managing the pool of applicants under the three primary categories under the Canadian Economic immigration, i.e. the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FST) and the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSW).
The Express Entry Stream of Manitoba provides a provincial nomination for Express Entry candidates with work experience and skills in the province’s in-demand skill list and having a strong connection with the province.
Since January 2018, 1,155 Invitation to Apply (ITA) have been issued under the Manitoba’s provincial nomination Programs Canada to eligible candidates under the Express Entry Program. A candidate is required to have a valid Express Entry Profile and is required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Manitoba Provincial Nomination Program to be considered for Manitoba’s Express Entry Stream.
