It is to your greatest advantage to enhance your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score as well as your ranking in the Express Entry Pool. The highest ranked applicants are issued Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada. Remember, the higher your CRS score the greater your chance of being drawn from the Express Entry pool.

There are a couple of things you must do in order to improve your score and boost your possibilities to obtain an ITA. For Instance, you may want to:

Simply secure a Valid Job Offer utilizing:
- Job Bank or
Headhunters in Canada Nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program and earn an additional 600 points to your CRS score
Increase your language score up to the maximum level
A higher level of education
Improve your work experience in one NOC
If your spouse or common-law partner has a higher educational degree, diploma, or certificate he/she may be a better candidate for the principal applicant in order to improve your overall score
Improve your language ability in English or French. Ensure that you only take the language tests recognized by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
Have your spouse take the language test as well
If you don’t have six years or more work experience in one NOC, you may increase your work experience in one NOC

Obtain a Provincial Nomination or a Valid Job Offer to increase your CRS Points

A Provincial Nomination or a Valid Job Offer Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)from a Canadian employer is the most strategic way of improving your CRS score. Remember that your job offer is based on your skills set and work experience you have acquired within the last ten years of your application for permanent residence.

Provincial Nominee Programs: A Fast-Track to Permanent Residence through Express Entry

In Canada, the federal, provincial and territorial governments jointly share jurisdiction over the selection of immigrants. Canada, both geographically and politically, is distributed into 10 provinces and three territories. Other than Nunavut and Quebec, all other provinces and territories have immigration programs that allow them to nominate immigrant candidates to Canada and who intend to settle in a particular province. These are the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

Provincial and territorial governments are leveraging these programs to attract permanent residents to Canada.

Primarily every PNP is customized to meet the specific needs of the provinces and territories and address their skills gap.

In general, the CRS has a total of 1200 points 600 of which can be acquired through PNP. These additional points sum up in the candidates’ human capital and skill transferability points, resulting in a strong possibility of an ITA for permanent residence at a subsequent Express EntryDraw.

A Qualifying Job Offer from a Canadian Employer

Under the CRS, candidates who have received a pre-arranged employment or a valid job offer from a Canadian employer are rewarded with 200 or 50 points, depending on the job.

200 CRS points for all NOC 00 jobs with a valid job offer
50 CRS points for any other NOC 0, A and B jobs with a valid job offer

A job offer must outline the particulars of the job they are offering you, such as:

pay structure and deductions (annual or hourly rate)
job duties and responsibilities
employment conditions, like your hours of work, permanent full time, and other benefits
